Low-emission cargo handling technology

Like trucks, reach stackers are equipped with exhaust gas cleaning systems, so many of our reach stackers have particle filters and AdBlue technology. They also have engine insulation to ensure significant reductions in operating noise. At the same time, the speed is limited to the most productive maximum during operation, which helps to reduce fuel consumption, lower the risk of accidents and reduce wear and tear on the handling equipment. Moreover, it shows that environmental measures can also have financial benefits.

The expansion of our terminal and depot in Regensburg also includes the installation of a railtrack-based gantry crane as part of an enhancement programme. The crane is driven by electric motors, both for its own movement and for the handling of containers, thus permitting a further reduction in energy use and emissions. This is further improved by the fact that modern gantry cranes recuperate (i.e. feed back) energy while lowering the containers. Gantry cranes always require a high handling volume. Compared with reach stackers, their productivity per square metre is higher, as they require less working space and can efficiently stack up several containers at a time. Here, too, economic decisions go hand in hand with environmental benefits.

“State-of-the-art handling technologies for financial and sustainable improvements.”
